History of Mission Ocean™

The Mission Ocean™ program was developed in 1997, by a team at Purdue University Calumet, to help elementary school teachers deliver math, science and technology through collaborative teaching methods based on a deep-sea submarine research and rescue simulation.

Mission Ocean helps to prepare students for the global economy, specifically the area of school-to-career initiatives that support the development of global workforce skills.

In this program students are taught core math and science concepts and skills which incorporate social studies and language arts to create a dynamic real-world collaborative problem-solving environment.

As concepts and skills are applied in the virtual submarine simulation, students extend their conceptual understanding and experience how their individual and collective competencies enhance and support a productive mission.

Each student's success is measured according to his or her proficiency in specific skill areas, as well as an ability to collaborate with peers in solving problems.
